Lot description - from the online catalogue*

Born in 1913, William Scott was a British still-life artist known for his pared-down compositions reminiscent of Georges Braque and Paul Klee. He received his artistic education at the Belfast School of Art and then at the Royal Academy of Art in London. In the 1950s Scott was widely known in Britain as an Abstract painter, along with other artists such as Ben Nicholson and Terry Frost. Examining the relationship between space, form and colour, Black Pan, Beige Cup on Brown (1970) follows the same pared-down composition style as Scott’s paintings of everyday objects. Another print from the same edition is part of the Tate Gallery’s permanent collection.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
